Yes, you to can use radio-frequency identification (RFID) at home using this lovely little creature. What is RFID, you might ask? It's those little metal tags they put in CDs so you can't steal them easily. It's the chips they put in dogs so that people can scan them. And most importantly, it's a technology that we'll soon have at our fingertips. With the help of designer Sylvie Peyricot-Chanchus and Violet, we're one USB chord away from scanning all things scannable
Sylvie Peyricot-Chanchus works with design company "Violet." Here he's made a prototype for what might be the next radical thing in computerizing our lives. It's called the "MIR:ROR" - and the bear thing is mostly there for bear-aesthetics… or maybe it's a rabbit?
Check out some example uses for this scanner from Sylvie:
Some examples among the vast range of possible applications : a Ztamp stuck to a packet of pills can remember the times when they need to be taken and remind the user to take one, or of the need to leave a suitable gap between pills; a Ztamp stuck to the paper file of a particular customer can open up an Excel file or database file on the computer; a Ztamp stuck to a child's key ring can automatically send an email to his parents telling them that he has arrived home safely from school, etc.
I will be having mine re-up my laptop's internet connection when I come near it after a long hard walk to the refrigerator. Because there's nothing I hate more than a lost internet connection while I'm grabbing some snax.
